A MESSAGE FROM PASTOR TIM

Hello and welcome to the Music Ministry page of First Assembly of God of Greater Lansing. Working under the leadership and vision of Senior Pastor Curt Dalaba, Music Ministry leads in corporate worship, offers special music by the Sanctuary Choir and various soloists, cooperates in district events, and provides outreach through seasonal dramas and community events.  In the course of a given year Music Ministry will be involved in over 200 regular services in addition to those with special emphasis.  Dedicated musicians, singers, actors, dancers, sound / computer technicians and support staff provide excellence in these areas throughout the year.  Come join us.  I'm sure you'll agree.

Thanks for visiting!

The following ministries are a broad overview of Music Ministry at First Assembly of God of Greater Lansing.

SUPPORT STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS

There are those who diligently and faithfully work behind the scene on a daily basis.  They are appreciated and certainly not without distinction. Administrative Assistant to the Senior Pastor, Sharleen Lowman and Church Secretary / Receptionist, Judy Wells provide valuable support in the area of Music Ministry.  In addition, the following Music Department members serve throughout the year.  Lynn Covert provides worship team assistance and coordinates necessary Child Care for seasonal music related practices.  Ladye Hahn provides assistance as the Music Department Hospitality Coordinator.  Tracy Bowden is in charge of Seasonal Production Floor Managing.  Jarrod Beaty spearheads all sanctuary sound related ministry.  Marilyn Beers leads a team providing wardrobe for our seasonal musicals.  Tina Bender develops all dance related ministry. And Becky Wareing is responsible for Seasonal Musical Drama.

If you appreciate the great benefit volunteering provides and would like to know more about how you can become involved, please contact Pastor Tim Covert at 517-332-5480.

WORSHIP TEAM

First Assembly of God Worship Team leads corporate worship in all regularly scheduled services, offering spirited praise in a blended worship style that touches all generations.  Our focus is to provide an atmosphere of praise and worship that God is pleased to inhabit. Certainly excellence in music is an important aspect of this focus, but not the only priority.  Worship in spirit and truth is our ultimate focus.  Through this important corporate ministry we believe God makes His presence known in our services to bless, heal, comfort, encourage, challenge and strengthen.  Join us and experience what God is doing in the lives of His people!

In addition, we invite those of you with musical abilities who would like to be considered for this valuable team ministry to contact Pastor Tim Covert at 517-332-5480 for more information.

SANCTUARY CHOIR

Greater Lansing First Assembly of God Sanctuary Choir is under the direction of Pastor Tim Covert Those involved in choir commit time and talent, singing in the 11am Sunday morning service during corporate worship and featured later in the same service.  Two seasonal musicals (Easter and Christmas) balance out this year around ministry focus.  Summer is short in Michigan and always a busy time of year.  The Music Department understands this dynamic as it continues to minister to the body mid June to mid August through ensembles and special groups.  Choir members can chose their level of participation.  Rehearsals are in the choir room following the corporate worship of Sunday evening service.  No audition is necessary; however, other requirements are necessary.  See Pastor Tim for details.  Come and experience what God is doing in this dynamic ministry!

DRAMA

Becky Wareing coordinates our Drama Department.  Drama partners with the Sanctuary Choir during special Easter and Christmas performances each year.  Great preparation is made during these seasonal events to offer the message of Christ in a different format than our weekly pulpit ministry.  Drama offers visible connection with the audience, and can link the gospel message to those in attendance in a powerful way.  These presentations are sure to encourage your family, friends, or working associates.  Check our website for coming events.

TECHNICAL

Sound, led by Sound Coordinator Jarrod Beaty, is probably the most obvious technical ministry in the church; however, Power Point operators provide words for our weekly worship services, and during seasonal musicals lighting and video join the mix. All play a vital role during the course of a year.  Involvement for sound and Power Point begins with training from a team member and evolves into supervised hands on operation ultimately leading to independent operation.  Training for lighting and video are also available as needed for seasonal musicals.  This is a very necessary, rewarding, and effective area of ministry in the church.

OFFERTORY SPECIAL MUSIC

There are those within the local body who possess the ability and desire to minister encouragement through God-given musical or dance talent.  This ministry offers vocal, instrumental, or dance arrangements during the receiving of regularly scheduled offerings in our services each week.  Pastor Tim is the coordinator for the monthly Offertory Schedule.  Those on this schedule are regular attending adults in our congregation who have dedicated their ability to God, desire to minister and show a definite musical or dance ability.  If you would like to learn more about Offertory Special Music please contact Pastor Tim Covert at 517-332-5480.

DANCE

The people of First Assembly of God of Greater Lansing hold the arts in high esteem.  Dance is no exception.  It is another aspect of ministry facilitating worship through dance offertories during our services, or within the pageantry of seasonal musicals.  Dance Coordinator Tina Bender leads this powerful ministry.  Team members have one goal in mind, to glorify God in the dance.  Whatever your skill level, all interested dancers are cordially invited to take part.

WARDROBE

As the next seasonal musical is but a speck in the future, wardrobe is already at work.  Marilyn Beers is the Seasonal Wardrobe Coordinator, anticipating and working throughout the year on ideas for the next challenge.  Preparation and organization are key as wardrobe enables effective staging of musicals.  Wardrobe involves those with skills in sewing or costuming a valuable part in ministry.  If you have skills in this area, come join us and play a rewarding and important role in the ministry of drama.

MUSICAL SUPPORT TEAM

The Musical Support Team is in charge of seasonal musical stage coordination.  Partnering with drama and dance, this team provides support, cueing actors and facilitating set changes as needed, etc.  Without this valuable ministry, musicals would be very difficult to accomplish.  Maybe you are not an actor, dancer, singer, or technical person, but would like an opportunity to become involved in the seasonal musical effort.  Here is a wonderful invitation to be part of a team ministry that is ultimately reaching our community.

HOSPITALITY

Making people feel comfortable and cared for is an important aspect of any social gathering.  Ladye Hahn is the Music Department Hospitality Coordinator working with other teams within the church providing care during important music related events. The importance of hospitality cannot be over-emphasized.  If you thrive in providing this kind of environment for others, please consider this valuable ministry opportunity.

HOME FELLOWSHIP GROUP

Approximately once a month Pastor Tim and Miss Lynn host a Home Fellowship Group. The atmosphere is relaxed, with thought provoking discussion, great conversation and of course snack-able food.  The evening begins with singing, followed by a devotional, then prayer for individual needs and finally food and informal conversation. If you're interested in getting to know others in this very accepting and encouraging setting, please contact Pastor Tim at 517-332-5480 or Miss Lynn at 517-323-7872.

For more information on other locations of First Assembly of God of Greater Lansing Home Fellowship Groups, contact the church office at 517-332-5480.

FISHING MINISTRY

Now I know what you are thinking.  And you're right!  This is just plain fun.  But who said Christians can't have fun?  Each year, the directors of this ministry, Pastor Tim and Mark Krish, invite men (and under appropriate circumstances women) from our church for a day of fishing on a river or lake.  Baptism is optional; however, we try not to let that happen.  Words or phrases commonly used during the course of the day include.... oh man, auh, that was a monster, say hello to my little friend, cramp, got him, lost him, when are we going again?  Sound like something you're interested in?  Talk to Pastor Tim or Mark.
